New owners of bingo hall hope to start regeneration of town
The owners of a local bingo hall located in the town of Leominster, in Herefordshire, are hoping that the redeveloped hall will spark new life into the town by attracting more visitors. The Top Ten bingo hall in the town, was recently purchased by the company Powell and Co Construction and, initially, the belief among residents of the town was that the company planned to knock the hall down and build a new housing development on the site; but this has now been publicly dismissed by the company.
Jason Powell, a partner in Powell and Co. stated that the company planned to renovate the existing hall – previously used as a cinema – with hopes of making it a focal point of the town, both for existing residents and potential visitors. He then went on to promise that the site would continue to be used as a bingo hall for the foreseeable future.
“We are not going to be knocking it down or turning it into flats as has been mentioned,” said Powell.
The next stage in the company’s plans for the Top Ten is to submit the redevelopment proposals to the local council for approval. These ideas include using the hall for other forms of entertainment, alongside the bingo nights, including comedy shows and pop and rock concerts, thereby increasing visitor interest in the town and stimulating it‘s economy.
Powell added that he felt the redevelopment of the hall could increase its capacity to around 2,000, which would make it suitable as a general entertainment venue. The hall is due to be used next week for a charity bingo event hosted by Evesham Rowing Club, which is intended to raise money and awareness for the charity Acquired Brain Injury Education Service.
